What’s working to prevent ‘hoarding’ of essential supplies

With the current pandemic occurring, many citizens are rushing to grab any essential supplies necessary to overcome COVID-19 leading to many hoarding supplies to themselves.

Multiple supermarket chains nationwide have been struggling to keep up with the demand for essential supplies. It has led to many supermarkets and retailers instructed managers to limit sales on high-demand items. Grocery and retailers are limiting sales of certain items to try to prevent customers from panic shopping and hoarding. These grocery and retailer stores are trying their best to limit how much a customer buys to be able to restock their inventory and their shelves. President Trump signed an executive order aimed at preventing price gouging and hoarding of critical medical supplies.

“They limit how much a customer can buy of specific items due to people over buying and as result, the store runs low and even runs out of that material leaving those who need it most with barely anything,” said senior Emily Ocampo.

Many stores have recently posted policies of limit buying certain items.

“By limiting what supplies that people buy you don’t need to over grab things,” said senior Maya Montoya.

By limiting the number of items available to buy it becomes easier for stores.

“It seems that by limiting certain essential supplies down to 1-2 per customer seems to be working because it’s helping to prevent those who hoard supplies and sell them at outrages prices,” said senior Anette Fonseca.
