What’s working for Cicero teenagers during quarantine?

Teenagers during quarantine are working, doing school work and connecting with friends in new ways.

Since March 21, people were ordered to stay home until April 7, but since COVID-19 got worse the order was extended until April 30. Schools and stores had to close because those places are where it’s most susceptible to catching this virus. A recent executive order from Cicero Town President Larry Dominick requires all residents to wear face masks when in public.  Now teenagers are trying to keep themselves busy and productive during these times. UNICEF has been advising teenagers to create distractions; find new ways to connect to friends and focus on you.

“I’ve been relaxing and enjoying the free time I have. I’ve also been rewatching TV shows,” freshmen Diego Leon said.

Some teenagers are being productive and keeping themselves busy during this quarantine.

“Homework, working out, watching movies with my family, going biking, playing basketball with my siblings, and video games,” senior Jesus Romero said.

Even with all the bad things happening with COVID-19 teenagers enjoy not having as much responsibility and stress.

“I think it’s actually a good thing, we get a break from work and waking up so early. You get to spend more time with your family. You also have way more time on your hands because you have fewer obligations,” 18-year-old Gabriela Romero said.
