Bad Bunny takes the lead at MEHS

Bad Bunny is Morton’s top artist of 2022.

In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, the top artist was Bad Bunny with 37 votes.  Music artist Yeat was also among the top artist as well with 25 votes. The Weeknd came in 3rd with 20 votes. Music artist Kendrick Lamar came in 4th with 15 votes. Lastly Grupo firme with 3 votes came in 5th.

According to Digiday, “Spotify Wrapped, which has been around since 2015, was created in-house at Spotify. Over the years, Wrapped has become an anticipated event, namely across Twitter and Instagram, where Spotify users post branded content in an organic word-of-mouth style of marketing, Bodman said.” Many Spotify users thought that Spotify wrapped started once Spotify first came. Others say the only reason they downloaded Spotify was for the Spotify wrapped since Apple music did their own version of wrapped called Replay in November 2019.

We interviewed some Morton Students and this is what they had to say:

When asked who was their favorite artist Morton East senior Lizbeth Delgado said “Harry Styles.” Which surprisingly wasn’t one of the top artist in this year’s Spotify Wrapped. In total Lizbeth had 15,453 minutes which low compared to others we interviewed.

“Spotify released its “deep dive into the music and podcasts that defined your 2022” on November 30 which you can check out here. Wrapped is typically kept “under wraps” until the first week of December as in 2021 it was released on December 1, in 2020 it was released on December 2 and in 2019 this fell on December 5,” said website The Scotsman.

“I think BTS (a K-pop boy band) was going to be my top artist because I listen to them during school day to not be tired all day. I spend over 38,005 minutes listening on Spotify, I expected more,” said Jazmin Zarate a junior at Morton East, “My most played song was Butter, and Megan Thee Stallion remix because it’s a very energetic song in my opinion.”

In addition, many were surprised with their top genre.

“I was surprised that my top genre was rap because I don’t feel like I listen to rap that much. I thought either Tyler the Creator or The Stokes were going to be my top artist but it was just Bad Bunny,” said junior, Gianelle Virella.

“I was surprised with my top genre because I would listen to K-pop and songs like Artic Monkeys and Mitski,” said Jazmin Zarate.
