Gianna Porcelli performed an intimate concert at Morton East’s Chold auditorium February 21st 2025 at 9:10am.
She was a natural performer in front of students, had such a wonderful voice, and her original songs were great, as well as her covers of famous songs from artists like Adele (“Someone Like You”), Billie Eilish (“Birds of a Feather”), and Bruno Mars.
Who is your favorite teacher at your school? And why is that person your favorite teacher?
My favorite teacher at my school is probably Cal. She is my vocal jazz teacher, and she always considers my opinions in my singing lessons. She shows me new artists every day and improves my techniques for the better.
What are the advantages of going to an arts school?
Some of the advantages of going to an arts school are that you meet so many different people who love the same things you do. Everyone is open and free to collaborate with everyone and everything.
Where is your school located?
My school is located in the city of Chicago in River West.
When did they offer you the chance to go to the Chicago School of Arts?
I got offered to go to their school on May 1, right after my online and personal application. It was such exciting news.
Has anyone famous gone there that we might know?
Some famous people who went to my school are Lalah Hathaway, Kimberly Jones, Jake from State Farm, Craig Hall, Justin Tranter, and apparently Kanye West only attended for a year.
What does your typical day look like?
My typical day is usually waking up around 5:30 to catch the train, where the bus picks me up. I have all my academic classes until 12:30, and all my arts classes start at 1:30 and end at 4:30. If I’m leaving from school on time, I would get on the train and be home around 5:45. Usually, I would need to stay later at school with my other friends, which leads me to be home around 7:45.
How much homework do you get and what does it look like?
I still get a regular amount of homework, if not more. Considering I spend four hours on my arts major, I get homework for music too. Whether that is learning a new piece of music or clapping and counting beats on paper, I still enjoy it. I have 75-minute academic classes three times a day, meaning we do get homework in every class.
