“Money Heist” was the most popular show on Netflix last year for Morton East students.

Initially, in a random survey of 140 Morton East Cicero residents, 44% said that “Money Heist” was the best Netflix show of 2020. According to Refinery29, using figures released throughout the year by Netflix, Spanish crime drama “Money Heist” is its most-watched show, followed by zeitgeist- grabbing documentary series “Tiger King,” and classy chess drama “The Queens Gambit”. In a random survey of 140 Morton East students, 62 reported that “Money Heist” was their favorite show.

“‘Money Heist’ was hands down my favorite show. Their Spanish accent had me speaking like them all around the house. I know my mom was over it,” Senior Carlos Almaraz said.

The show “YOU,” came in second place with 43 votes. This show is about a bookstore manager in New York, Joe Goldberg who meets Guinevere Beck. Throughout the show, he feeds his toxic obsession using social media and other technology to track her presence and remove obstacles to their romance.

“I loved the show, it’s crazy to me that there are people out there who stalk people and become so obsessed with someone, it’s scary honestly,” Morton East student Isabela Alvarado said.

“Selena” came in third place with 18 votes. This series is an American biographical drama streaming television created by Moisés Zamora. It tells the story of Tejano singer Selena’s rise to fame and the sacrifices she and her family made along the way.

“Me gustó mucho la serie. Personalmente, creo que fue mejor que la película porque el programa detalla más por lo que pasaron para obtener la fama. Muestra más no sólo sobre ella, sino sobre toda su familia,” former Morton East graduate Roberto Ornelas said .

“The Umbrella Academy” received the fewest votes.

“I tried watching it but I couldn’t get past the third episode. I just don’t like superhero shows. It was super boring in my opinion,” senior Yahaira Montoya said.
