G Herbo was the best Chicago rapper of last year for Morton East students.

In a random survey of “Chicago’s best rapper” ranging from Juice Wrld, Polo G, King Von, Lil Durk, and G Herbo, Morton East students/Cicero residents, said overall G Herbo was the best Chicago rapper of the year. Rapper G Herbo, formerly known as Lil Herb, is a Chicago rapper who grew up in Chicago’s Terror Town, one of the most violent neighborhoods in a city that has become known for its inner city gang violence, and its own violent style of hip-hop, called drill music. This year has been big for him from dropping his album “PTSD”, then adding on a deluxe version of the album to dropping multiple singles. 25 year old Herbert Randall Wright III is really making a name for himself.

My Mother is a care giver for a lady who used to watch over Herbert and she had told my Mom a story. “They were always shopping at the store I worked at and he would also try on the biggest watches and tell his mother he would be a big time rapper one day,” Rosita had said.

Rapper Lil Durk came in second place with 3.0 average amount of votes. 28 year old Durk D. Banks, grew up in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago’s South Side.

“I’ve been listening to Durkio before he got all the fame, it’s crazy how he stays at O Block still knowing he could afford most high-end things,” Senior Jahir Rodriguez said.

Polo G came in third place with 2.9 average amount of votes. As another big time rapper 22 year old born on the North Side of Chicago, Taurus Tremani Bartlett was raised in the Marshall Field Garden Apartments housing project.

“I grew up with Polo, we would always get ourselves into trouble with our lil gang. Last time I seen him was a couple years ago when he let me in his music video for that song welcome back,” said friend of Polo G (wanted to stay anonymous).

As for Chicago rappers King Von and Juice Wrld received the fewest votes. Which is understandable since they couldn’t drop any songs for the public due to them sadly passing away. Dayvon Da’quan Bennett (King Von) was shot dead while Jarad Anthony Higgins (Juice Wrld) had overdosed both on the year of 2020.

“They were both great rappers/ song writers, I’m sure they would have blown up even more if these incidents never happened. They really did have a lot coming their way but 2020 was such a terrible year.” Senior Adrian Salamanca said.
