Morton schedule changes for future generations

At Morton East High School 66 out of 108 students prefer the new schedule over the old schedule.

The old schedule at Morton East High School started at 8 am and the day ended at 2:40 pm. The new schedule now starts at 8:45 am and ends at 3:10 pm. In the new schedule there is an extra hour before school so students can go with their teachers if they need help in a class. According to morton201.org “the schedule should help improve student’s attendance…and allows students to be more rested throughout the day and the extra hour allows students to see their teachers before school and get help on the class they are confused on.”

“I like the new schedule because we get more rest. It also helps me improve on my school work and I feel like I have more energy throughout the day,” Morton East student Daniel Ledesma said.

Students feel that the new schedule will help them improve their performance in class. Also, some teachers feel that the new schedule helps them.

“I think the schedule is great for teachers because it gives us more prep time and also adds more time for intervention,” Morton East Spanish teacher Erika Zacarias said.

Teachers think that the new schedule is having positive effects on the students. It can also help students that are having difficulty with a class.

“I think it’s a positive change because it allows students to seek more help during the morning,” Morton East counselor Ms. Melendez said.

Some teachers patronize, or support the new schedule because they feel that is helpful for them and their students. Other teachers may think otherwise about the new schedule.

“I still have students absent and tardy first hour,” Morton East teacher Ms. Hapias said.
