Students more hopeful than staff that Biden brings unity

If Joe Biden wins the presidency what will he do?

In a random survey of 13 students, 11 students reported that Joe Biden will unify the nation.  In a random survey of 11 Teachers/Staff of Morton, 7 think Biden will not unify the nation.

According to the Biden Harris website (JoeBiden.com), Joe Biden has multiple things on his agenda if he does become president. He has a plan for climate and energy, COVID-19, and a plan for jobs and the economy. Many people debate on whether Joe Biden will be a good fit for a president, some say that he doesn’t have a plan but maybe he does.

As stated by the Biden Harris website (JoeBiden.com), he plans on containing covid-19 by increasing the accessibility to get tested, increase the number of drive-through testing sites by double, give evidence-based guidance for communities and how they should steer in this global pandemic, and resources for schools, small businesses, and families. He also plans on implementing a mask mandate nationwide by working with each states governors and make that mandatory in each state, if this were to happen right now and 95% of Americans wear masks between now and December it’s a possibility that we could save near 70,000 lives.

Another thing that Joe Biden plans on doing is making the process of coming into the United States legally simpler and easier. He plans on doing this by modernizing America’s immigration system. He will also reverse the Trump administration’s policies that separate children from their families at the border. He will also restore asylum laws so people from different countries can seek asylum.

“What I think about Biden is that to be honest, he isn’t going to be a good president for the United States, but I hope Biden understands that we need to change America.  We need to stop the violence, we need to keep our rights, he needs to show us that he cares about us, and he needs to do something now,” junior Mitzi Alvarado said.

Still, others think Biden has the expertise to do the job.

“I think Biden will (help bring back rights to people) with years of political experience, (but) he has a tough job ahead of him as the new president,” senior Joshua Arenas said.

Many people have said that because of all the things that have been happening, it is going to be hard for Joe Biden to be able to unify and heal the nation.

“If the Democrats win a majority in the senate then he can get more done. If the Republicans maintain control it may hinder how much he can get done,” U.S history teacher Lamberto Hornilla said.

These decisions will ultimately determine what Biden can achieve on what he has planned on his agenda.
