Prom is cancelled

In a survey of 120 Morton East students, 80 of them stated that they will not be attending prom, so East has decided to cancel the entire event because they will be losing too much money.

The 201 district previously announced that 2018-2019 prom would be canceled since not many students will be attending. Prom is an event that is held at the end of senior year. According to jovani.com the average amount of money teens usually spends on prom over $950. Due to students not having the requirements met and the majority of students not planning on attending to prom district 201 decided to cancel 2018-2019 prom.

There are many students that will not be attending prom because they don’t have the money to go.

“ I don’t have enough money to waste on a ticket of $99,” student Leonel Palos said.

Some students simply don’t care about prom and think it’s a waste of money and time.

“I would rather spend that money on something else. I rather stay at home and be on my PS4 all day instead,” student Cristian Gutierrez said.

Some people just see prom as another dance. They don’t think it’s any special.

“Prom is just a dance and I don’t see the importance of it. I can go to another dance any other day for a lower price,” Hector Ceballos said.

Unlike other people, some are really devastated with prom being canceled.

“I had already purchased my prom dress and bought my prom ticket. I was excited to spend this day with my friends. Prom is a once in a lifetime experience I don’t know why no one would go,” Natalia Marquez said.
