Boo hoo: time for a break-up movie

Luis Landa and Oscar Gallado

Maybe this year, you’re alone — recently, alone.  Misery loves company, so it’s time for a break-up movie.

Here are our top 5 break-up movies:

  1. Marriage Story
  2. Closer
  3. Lori and Doug
  4. The Break Up
  5. John Tucker Must Die

Marriage Story which is about a stage director and his actor wife struggling through a gruelling, coast to coast divorce that pushes them to their personal and creative extremes. The moral of the story:  a little bit of separation is all you need to be happy.

Closer is a popular break up movie that centers around the idea that even the closest people can one day become total strangers.   Like, you can feel like you know everything about someone, but find out everything you thought you knew was completely wrong and you never truly knew them.  Unfortunatley, this is something anyone can experience.

Lastly, We Broke Up is about Lori and Doug, a long time couple who broke just before their wedding.  (Doug was a liar and a cheat.)   They don’t want to disrupt the planned wedding fun so they act as if the break up never happened for a weekend.

The Break Up shows how love is blind — until you’ve been with someone for a while.  Then, your eyes open to all those little annoyances you’ve been blind to.  And, you just can’t take it anymore.

John Tucker Must Die shows was happens when the player gets played.
