Cardi B Tops Billboard Top 100
On October 6 of 2017, Cardi B was number one on Top Billboard 100, thanks to her single “Bodak Yellow”. This gave Cardi B a lot of recognition because she was the first female rapper to be number one without any assistance of another artist. Bodak Yellow was number one for six weeks in the Billboard Top 100.
Drake’s “More Life” Album Release
On March 18 of 2017, Drake released his “More Life” album which Drake calls a playlist. The inspiration behind his title was the song “More Life” by Vbyz Kartel, which the MC has referred to as an icon. Drake has made his father the cover of the album, he was smoking out of a pipe and writing down notes.
Mac Miller Passes Away
The talented music artist, Mac miller, passed away on September 7, 2018. At just 26 years old he passed away from an accidental drug overdose that involved cocaine and alcohol. During this time he was still enjoying his success from his fifth and final album “Swimming” which was released August 3, 2018 right before he passed.
Beyonce’s Coachella Performance
In April of 2018 Beyonce gave her first performance after having her twins at Coachella. She is the first woman of color to headline at Coachella so millions of people showed up to watch her performance and many also tuned in to watch the performance be streamed. The performance included cameos from her sister Solange, JAY-Z, and former Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.
Cardi B Reveals Pregnancy and Marriage
When Cardi B appeared on “Saturday Night Live” in April of 2018 she confirmed her pregnancy rumors by showing off her bump when she performed on the show. Then later in June, she confirmed a report that said her and the Migos rapper, Offset, got secretly married in September 2017.
