How many Morton East students drive to school every day?
A security guard said that about 40 percent of all students drive to Morton East high school every single day based on their research. We found this information at the attendance office to find out how many students drive to Morton East.
In a random survey, out of 100 Morton East students, 27 students said they drive to school every single day. So, one can assume about a quarter of the student population probably drives to school.
According to Citylab.com, Overall, more than two-thirds (68 percent) of students surveyed get to school by car: 36 percent are passengers and 32 percent drive themselves to school. Roughly a fifth of students (22 percent) use conventional public transit or school bus.

Genge- I’m not surprised that there are many students that drive to school because in this generation we want to find an easy and safe way to do things. Since walking could be troublesome, for example the weather can be crazy (raining, snowing, temperature) or you’re just going to be late to school, students would rather drive to school.

Genge 4th Hour- Wanting to know what year (as in sophmore, Junior, Senior) drive themeselves to school? In this article it states that about 68 percent get on care but 40 percent drive on their own. Its good to hear that many drive on their own because they just depend on themselves and feel confortable with what they do on their own.

Ms. Genge- If you are able to drive, then I think that carpooling to school is a great to get to school. Not only you are helping your friends get to school, you are reducing traffic but you are also saving the planet. In a study, it was demonstrated that if more students carpool together, the amount of greenhouse produce for that school year could go down for about 20%.

Genge – I think students driving themselves to school everyday is a super helpful because they learn a little bit about how to be independent, since they don’t have to depend on nobody to get to school. It is also way safer to go to places in your car, walking can be very dangerous especially if alone. It’s also a great way to get better at your driving, become more responsible and efficient.

Genge: Many students drive to Morton because they simply can. If they have access or own a car what’s stopping them? Citylab was a great website to use for this question, citylab gives the percentages of surveyed students who travel via multiple means.

Genge- Of those that drive themselves to school, what grade are the majority in? In the article it states that 40 percent of Morton students drive to school. I think it’s great for students to drive themselves to school that way they do have to depend on anyone to take them or pick them up. It is also good in times of bad weather so they have to walk. Overall, it’s good for students to be able to get to places by themselves.

Genge- 2nd hour
Driving to school helps not only the driver, but the other drivers on the road because it helps them learn how to drive efficiently and on a schedule. Since school starts early they have to make sure they get to school on time by being ready and prepared to drive and get a little stressed with traffic. Driving to school can also come beneficial in the future because your stress will reduce once you drive often. The driver won’t be as nervous and it helps the driver learn more about the rules and laws of driving.

Genge, It is crazy how many students drive to school, I thought students would just get a ride to school or just walk it. It is good that students drive to school because maybe they have to go somewhere important after school.

Genge- In my research I found out that although junior and seniors are allowed to drive to school because they have their licenses many sophomore also drive to school with the permits to teach themselves how to drive without having their parents comment on every little mistake they make, personally I don’t like driving with my parents and they allow me to drive by myself as long as i’m responsible.

Genge, I am surprised about how many students drive to school. I thought most students would just get a ride to school or just walk it. It is good that many students can drive to school because maybe they got somewhere important to be after school.

Genge- This article is great. They included a website called Citylab.com that talked about how many students get rides and drives to school at the average amount throughout the United States. This article is suppose to be for Morton East. The evidence can also be incorrect because the survey was random. But according to other websites the average amount of teenagers who drive to school is correct.

Genge- I am actually no surprised of the statistics because I know a couple friends whom drive to school as well and I actually believe driving yourself to school is a great way to get to school especially if you live far from the school as I do. This eliminates the problems of walking to school and getting there late, missing the bus, having your bike tire popped and such.

Ms. Genge – I”’m surprised that a lot of students don”t drive themselves to school. I don”t drive myself to school because the school is so close by my house. I thought that the rate of students driving would be higher.

Genge- I found out that a lot of people drive to school here at Morton. Some of them are even friends that sometimes give me a ride. The reason on why highschoolers drive to school is because some drive to school to go to jobs after school or because they are needed at home as soon as possible after the school day is done. Some drive because their either own a car or have access to a car and their parents allow it.

Genge- After reading this article, I’ve learned that there are many high school student that drive to school in this school but also a lot more all around the world. in the year 2015 they did a survey to see how many students drive to school and they came to a conclusion that, “Nationwide, 76.3% of high school students aged ≥16 years reported having driven during the 30 days before the survey; 83.2% of white students had driven compared with <70% of black and Hispanic students. Across 42 states, the percentage of students who drove ranged from 53.8% to 90.2%."

Genge, sure many of the Morton East students drive to school a lot because they have a car and should be able to use it wherever they need to go. If they want to use a car then yeah they should, no one is going to tell them that they can’t drive their car to school. Besides its a great way to get to school since they won’t have to worry about missing the bus since they have a car. It’s also a safe place than the bus since something can happen inside the bus. But knowing that there is a lot of students who drive to school is crazy, but also good for them since they still arrive in school.
