What happens to students who are caught with drugs at school?
February 10, 2020
Unfortunately, it hasn’t been much of a surprise that students have come to school on drugs or with the possession of drugs recently, but there are consequences at school when that happens.
Students getting caught usually starts as a suspicion from school staff, for example, a teacher smelling marijuana in their classroom.
According to Mr. Depa, Dean, some teachers would send an email saying there is a smell in their room and would sometimes say around wherein their classroom the smell is located.
Usually, after the dean is there and finds the suspicious students then they are taken down to the dean’s office to be taken, there is a search taken place, then they are sent to the nurse for an evaluation. Mr. Depa also mentioned that under the student code conduct staff is allowed to conduct a search and do the evaluation.
According to Mr. Depa, the evaluation consists of the nurse checking the student’s pupil, coordination test, and other basic procedures. If something comes back abnormal parents will be called because the students are not allowed to leave without a parent picking them up since they aren’t sober. The consequence then would usually be an out of school suspension.
If a student is caught in possession of drugs, for example, multiple bags of individually wrapped marijuana or a large amount of marijuana, the student will be questioned, and typically police will be involved, especially when there is an intent to sell in or out of school. The drugs will be confiscated, and parents will be called to pick up the student as well.
In the end, the main consequence will be an out of school suspension.

“Genge” Possession or use of drugs have varying consequences, from suspension to federal jail time depended on the amount of the substance, or where you are. Arrests for drug possession have been becoming more common, so it seems it is more likely more students may be caught with drugs on school grounds.

Michael.F, Genge- Many students walk in everyday into school with marijuna and we don’t really realize it mainly because it can be placed on food or candy. But I believe that the school should give the students suspension after a certain number of times caught and once they exceed that limit then thats when they should be expelled and the student should be required to take online classes so that this can decrease the number of illegal substances entering the school.

Genge – It’s dangerous to sell drugs anywhere and esecially at school since the consequences can be worse. Why run the risk when you could earn money by working instead, many do this for fun, think it’s cool, and others are peer pressured into selling the product to other students. Then having the parents know, since the student would be picked up because he/she is not sober.
