How much money is going to be spent on Prom this year?
February 10, 2020
Around $54,000 will be spent on prom this year — if you do the math.
Approximately $7,000 is spent on prom amenities such as the DJ, photo booths, party favors, decorations, etc. — not including the price of the venue. According to Ms. Angel Samata, East prom coordinator, tickets cover the cost of the venue and decor, so if you figure 600 guests at $90 per ticket, you get a total of $54,000.
According to a 2015 survey from Visa, American families were spending an average of about $919 on their prom-goers. That was down only slightly from $978 in 2014; it peaked in 2013 with the average cost of prom being $1,139.

Ms. Genge
Since Prom is an event that takes place once a year for seniors, it is fine that so much money is getting put into it. It is a once in a lifetime experience in which, that is why so many kids do not mind putting lots of money for buying the tickets for this event. However, cost for this event could vary depending on how much a person spends on their dress, suit, shoes, etc. Not everything is going to be expensive so it is an event that you must shop wisely for. : )

Genge- While reading this ive come to the conclusion that the school is much more confident putting this much money since prom is very important to so many people and that you really cant afford not going to prom to many people prom is very special to them so whether the price they will go. this shows that the school can put whatever amount of money and they will get it back

GENGE- One connection I made to this article was that the cost for prom is actually very exprensive and sometimes we overlook that. I think that planning something big requires a lot of work and the time to plan prom is probably not that long. One of my friends attended prom last year and she had a wonderful time and I just hope that the money going into it is really worth it. The average prom ticket cost is between 45 and 50 but it also varies becase of how much we are putting into it this year.

Ms. Genge- I believe that people should send as much money as they want on their prom outfits. It is their money and they should spend it as they please. Many girls want to wear a big pretty dress, go out with their friends and have a luxurious ride because she wants to remember that night and that definitely helps by making the memories more exiting. In an article written by Mary Bowerman it states, “We are seeing that girls now are more kind of looking at the bigger picture and more wiling to spend money on a dress that they get more than one wear out of it,” she said. “It’s maybe a dress that’s on trend, and they can wear for graduation or homecoming or another prom at another school, so they’ll spend a little more money on it.” This also shows how some girls also buy expensive dresses knowing that they could use them for another special event.

Genge-Even when the cost for the ticket is $90 students will go over that price for their appearance because its a once in a life time experience, students tend to put things on their social media to make memories of or to show off, so the need to look fabulous for the dance will increase , because that very look will be instantly and widely shared on Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat and Instagram.

Genge- Prom is just like a party. But instead of more money going to decorations and the rest. It goes to clothes, formal attire, and since its a huge event for seniors, , everyone wants to look good. As for a regular party everyone just wants the place to look nice instead of themselves..

Genge- once connection I have with this is i know how it is to spend lots on money on a event that means a lot to not only you but to other people as well, but at the end of the day its worth it because you end up having fun with the people you know. and also you end up spending more money than the ticket because of other things and accessories such as the dress which can cost up to $300, as we move on prom is getting more expensive as stated by money. com they said that “it peaked in 2013 with the average cost of prom being $1,139”

Genge- Prom is an event that only happens once in high school so it is very important. I did my research and it said ” According to a 2015 survey from Visa, American families were spending an average of about $919 on their prom-goers.” Most girls spend money on their hair, makeup, dress, nails, etc and that is what adds up to the big total but the memory will be worth it all.

Genge- Why do you think the amount a person spends every year for prom is slowly starting to decrease? Do you even think its worth it to spend that much on one day? In my opinion I believe it is worth it since its a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend your own prom.

Genge : While schools may only charge about $90 per ticket, many students exceed that in the process of getting ready for prom. Many students spend money on their dress, hair, makeup, transportation, photos and dinners which brings the cost of prom higher than the actual ticket for some people. Most students may go above and beyond for prom because it is a very important event for them.

Genge- Do you think that going to prom will be more expensive in the future? Do you think spending almost 1,000 dollars for prom is worth it or do you think the cost of prom should be cheaper?

Genge- How do the students distribute the cost for prom related items?

Genge- One connection I had was about I have a lot of senior friends and they always talk about how they are going to spend so much money on prom. I did my research and one reason why prom might be expansive is because ” girls wear the dress once, prom only comes once a year, and you go very few times. It’s similar to how people spend thousands of dollars on wedding dresses; it’s a special occasion, and girls want a special dress.”

Genge- after reading this article, i made a connection. overall planning a party or event can cost a lot of money, even though i haven’t been to a prom, i had a 15. Having a 15 costs a lot of money and trowing a prom. For example, “according to a 2015 national survey from Visa, the average cost of a promposal and prom is $919, with Northeastern families leading the pack, spending an average $1,169 for the night.”
