How many undocumented students do we have?
February 10, 2020
There is no exact number available.
According to assistant principal Dr.Parrie, “under federal guidance, K-12 public schools cannot ask about child’s immigration status and, even if they do know, staff must treat them no differently than U.S. citizen students. …While schools must protect the rights and privacy of students, officials also must cooperate with federal officials in some instances”.
According to Wikipedia, in the nation we have 11.1 million undocumented immigrants. According to Migration Policy Institute, in Illinois we have around 487,000 immigrants and majority of the population are from Mexico with 64% (311,000). From birth to 24 years there is a total of 96,000 immigrants.

I like How Morton High School doesn’t give out undocumented immigrant information, I was kind of furious when i read the title but now I am calm knowing Morton doesn’t give up all information an can chose to spare details sometimes. And it’s nice to know that Mexicans are not the only undocumented immigrants. But I am still very annoyed that I got click baited.

Genge- I believe that keeping this type of information away from other students and staff is very important. Studies have shown that many students get bullied because of their background and where they come from. It i already enough for students to have to deal with their personal problem so that then they get to school to be made fun of.

Genge- I agree with the article when it states, ” “under federal guidance, K-12 public schools cannot ask about child’s immigration status and, even if they do know, staff must treat them no differently than U.S. citizen students.”‘ because I believe that it is very true. If people knew the status of students they would most definitely treat them differently or even threaten them.
