Hauntings cast shadow over East campus

Morton East is 125 years old and over the years there have been many telltales of Morton being haunted.
What can you expect from a school that was built in 1894, but plenty of ghost stories to go around. With the school dating over 100 plus years, we can confirm deaths that occurred in the school, such as the theater director passing the day before a play. Another more well-known one is the boy that drowned in the pool that used to be where the supervision room 115 is today. Mr. Gamboa confirmed this event did happen. In a random survey of 100 Morton East Students, 66 students believe East to be haunted while 33 others don’t believe it to be.
“I just heard the theater is haunted,” teacher Ms. Davila said.
Though she isn’t the only who’s heard or seen strange events in the auditorium, some students and staff within the school believe the shadowy figure that has been seen, is the 1970’s theater director Mr. Drews, who suffered a heart attack on the opening night of a play. Ms. Lopez, a former Morton East student, recalled an encounter while sweeping in the theater room.
“I was by myself cleaning the auditorium, all of a sudden I saw a shadow towering over me double the size wearing a top hat,” Civics teacher Ms. Lopez said.
“The older parts for-sure, like the basement, auditorium or theater,” AP Psychology teacher Mr. Fischer said.
“Senior year at Morton East, I was with some friends after school, we were helping set up for a play when we saw a little boy, we tried talking to him, but he wouldn’t respond. We then asked whose brother it was, everyone seemed puzzled, when we went to look for the boy again, he was gone,” said former student Gabriela Ramos.
