Fear of clowns floods East campus
October 30, 2019
More than one-third of students at East are afraid of clowns, survey says. But why? The act of clown/ clowns originated in the era 18th – 21st century. The Original clown had its face and neck painted in white paint. they were painted with a grin, in no specific color, and had colored their eyebrows black. His clothes are extravagant, and he is an experienced character and he has the highest status in the clown hierarchy. Another type is the Auguste this has his face painted in pink, red, or tan, His mouth and eyes are painted white and his lips and eyebrows are black, His clothes can be well-fitted or opposite, His character is that of an anarchist, a joker, or a fool. Because of people like John Wayne Gacy, who was a clown, people have grown a fear of clown. John would dress up as a clown and killed and raped kids at birthday parties here in Chicago, Ill. In a random survey of 100 Morton East Students, 35% of students reported they have a fear of clowns. Also, out of the 100 Morton East students, 72% of students know someone who has a fear of clowns.
But, most people outgrew the fear of clowns at a young age because of experiences.
“I’m no longer afraid of clowns because as a kid my family would always scare me, so I outgrew the fear,” said Sophomore Mato Briones.
Morton East believed that people should be banned from being clowns in school. Clown costumes are NOT allowed.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a bad thing, but it’s for our own protection because they don’t know if something bad is going to happen,” said Sophomore Mato Briones.
Some people’s first experiences with clowns came from haunted houses.
“The first time I saw a clown and got scared was at a haunted house,” said Junior Alexander Oroozco.
“Clown costumes aren’t allowed this year because they require make-up which means covering your face and plus clowns are creepy,” said Principal Gamboa.
And, of course, sometimes there’s no getting around the clown issue.
“Every day I see a clown, it’s me,” said Senior Andres Casimiro.
