A significant number of Morton East students went to visit family outside of town this summer.
According to students who either visited family out of town this summer or those who did not, 48% of the 100 students we asked did not visit family out of town, while 52% did. This shows that the majority of the students we asked either had the time or really wanted to visit their family, while the other 48% did not. However, the majority of students who visited their family have better socializing skills and are more outgoing, which means they love to go out most of the time. On the other hand, the 48% of students who did not visit family are less outgoing and had fewer things to do this summer.
In a survey of 100 people, over half the students we asked did visit family out of town this summer. Fifty-two students said yes, meaning 52% of the students we asked visited family out of town, while 48%, or 48 students, did not.
“The most fun thing I did this summer was go to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for a week with 10 of my closest friends. We all stayed together in a cabin. We roasted a pig, played golf nearly every day, and took a pontoon out on Lake Superior to see the Pictured Rocks,” said Mr. Gronlund, Math teacher.
Mr. Gronlund took a couple of trips this summer, including a visit to Iowa.
“I visited my parents, sister, brother-in-law, and two nieces in Le Claire, Iowa, for my niece’s third birthday. It was very nice. I had not seen my family in several months, so it was nice to get together. We celebrated my niece’s birthday in a nice park with pizza and cake,” said Mr. Gronlund.
Another teacher we interviewed, Mr. Camacho, had many interesting activities over the summer.
“I visited a lot of family, but they were mostly around the area. Instead, I visited a friend in Indianapolis. I also did a lot of outdoor activities, like going out and reading novels,” said Mr. Camacho, English teacher.
Mr. Camacho went to visit family and friends, but in addition, he played disc golf in Indianapolis.
“The most fun thing I did this summer? I read novels outside and played a lot of disc golf. I’ve learned how to throw better and bought new mid-range discs as I’ve started taking the game more seriously,” said Mr. Camacho.
Additionally, we interviewed Ms. Ortiz, a Spanish teacher, who had a busy summer.
“Although I didn’t visit any family out of town this summer, I still spent quality time with my family and enjoyed every moment with them. I’m always having fun when I’m with my family and I enjoy every second of it,” said Esmeralda Ortiz, Spanish teacher.
Furthermore, Ms. Ortiz went to a Chicago Fire game and took trips to other places.
“The most fun thing I did was relax all summer while watching Netflix, swim at Wisconsin Dells, and go to a Chicago Fire game. All three were amazing and I had a fun time,” said Esmeralda Ortiz.
Students also took trips out of state this summer.
“I went to visit my brother and took care of his dog for two weeks. It was tiring because I had to wake up early to get the dog food and play with him,” said senior Paula Ramirez.
