In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 85 students (85%) said they have been on their phone when they weren’t supposed to be during class. Recent studies and legislative actions have shed light on the impact of smartphone usage during school hours. A study by Seattle Children’s Hospital found that high school students spend an average of 1.5 hours, or 25% of their school day, on smartphones, primarily on social media and messaging apps.
