Morton East Students React to TikTok Ban
A recent class survey at Morton East revealed that most students are upset about the potential TikTok ban. Out of seven surveyed students, six expressed frustration and sadness about losing access to the app, highlighting the significant role TikTok plays in their daily lives. Here’s what some of the students and staff had to say:
- Alexis Lobato, Senior: “I feel disappointed because Trump is part of the reason for it being banned in the first place. I need TikTok. I feel depressed—that’s part of my life.”
- Giovanni Avita, Junior: “I feel bad because I want to be able to still see my favorite TikToks.”
- Victor Pineda, Senior: “Yes, because now people like me are going to have to use Instagram Reels, but I really don’t care. People are just going to lose jobs.”
- Benjamin Betancourt, Senior: “Bogus. I want to be able to watch TikTok. The app didn’t do anything wrong to me.”
- Alejandro Perez, Senior: “It’s just messed up what they’re trying to take away from us.”
Not everyone at Morton East shares the same sentiment. English teacher Ms. Austin commented, “Personally, no, not really, just because I don’t use TikTok. I deleted it a while ago, so it makes no difference to me.”
The survey results and student reactions demonstrate how deeply TikTok has integrated into the lives of many students at Morton East. While some see the app as a source of entertainment and connection, others who don’t use the platform are largely unaffected by the ban. However, the overall mood among students leans toward disappointment, showing that the app’s removal would leave a noticeable gap in their daily routines.
