Many Morton East students seem to want to go to trade school more than college!
In a random class survey from Mr. Lloyd’s automotive class, eleven out of 18 Morton East students said they will enroll in a trade school of some sort. Meanwhile, the remaining seven said they will go to college or have not decided yet.
This shows that students often choose to attend trade school after studying a trade in high school. We can see that fewer students are willing to go to college, while more—eleven out of eighteen—are willing to go to trade school. One reason more students prefer trade school is that, as the demand for trade workers grows, trade school graduates have a competitive edge over associate degree holders. Many trade schools also provide trusted partner programs with various industries and local businesses, making it easier for graduates to enter the workforce. Trade schools offer a practical alternative to traditional four-year colleges by focusing on developing specific skills for in-demand careers. Attending a trade school can save time, reduce education costs, and prepare students for a fulfilling career.
In addition to this, here is what some students have to say about colleges and trade schools:
Where is your dream college/trade school?
“I want to enroll in a trade school and become an electrician like my uncle. He spoke to me the other day and said once I graduate from Morton East, he will have a job waiting for me with his company and get me started with the necessary training and certifications needed for this trade,” said sophomore Angel Villa-Perez.
Why do you want to go to college/trade school?
“After high school, I want to go to a trade school for barber school because, for my career, I want to be a barber,” said junior Ivan Haro.
Who inspired you to go to college/trade school?
“Myself and my family. I want to go to trade school to become a roofer and learn the necessities, like waterproofing, to become a solid roofer,” said senior Bryan Solis.
We even asked some teachers at Morton East about their education.
“I spent roughly 7 ½ years in college. My dream college was UND,” said literacy teacher Mr. Anthony Asay.
We also asked the parents of one of the students who attends Morton East.
“I went to Westwood College to become a dentist,” said Sanjana Flores.
