Half of Morton East seniors don’t know what to do after high school.
There are many options, such as trade school, college, community college, or work. Just hearing all these options can be overwhelming because of the anxiousness caused by not actually having a plan while graduation is only a semester away.
According to a survey of 104 seniors, 53 know what they are doing after they graduate, while 51 don’t know what to do after high school.
Some senior advice:
“No one said you have to do something happy, just do it,” said civics teacher Ms. Brenda Lopez.
These students talk about what they are going to do after high school.
“Go straight to college and just study, find myself a doctor,” said Diana Carreno.
“Straight to college, graduate, working, have a family, buy a house,” said Kimberly Vasquez.
Some Morton East students’ opinions on what their plans are after high school are hilarious. Psychology says that humans often use humor to hide their anxiety about issues they don’t want to address.
“I’m going to be Elon Musk’s assistant,” said Andy Padilla.
“Gamble my life savings,” said Antonio Haro.
A quote from a senior who already graduated:
“I started my college education in early childhood education,” said Laura Barajas.
These seniors have mixed feelings about senior year.
“I feel happy about senior year because I’m finally going to be done after four years,” said Fabiola Barajas.
“I’m enjoying it a lot so far,” said Jukari Valdez.
