Whether you’re into making money or saving money, there’s free help at Morton East’s college and career center — and sometimes it comes with pizza!

In a random survey of 10 Morton East students 4 reported they knew about the college and career center’s lunch and learn events.

The college and career center is a helpful place for students who are looking for assistance with financial aid, college applications, college searches, job openings, scholarships etc. It is located in front of the cafeteria next to the stairs. They are mentors who can guide you during your high school career. The lunch and learn is an event created for students. During these events, the students are able to talk to someone who works in a specific career choice such as a real estate agent or a nurse, for example. They are able to ask questions regarding their specific career. The purpose is to provide students with useful information so they can make an educated decision regarding their future careers. The lunch and learns is a perfect opportunity for students to gain more knowledge on what the specific career entails. Top of Form

“The purpose of these lunch and learns are to help students get a firsthand experience from people who have a feel about what they do in their job, what training they need the ins and outs the good and the bad of the job, we are doing a series of lunch and learns from real estate to criminal justice to nursing,” college and career advisor Ryan Smith said.

Nursing is a career path viewed in the future for some students.

“I would love to be a nurse in the future, I am most interested in nursing because I am fascinated by science and medicine along with helping people,” senior Josselyn Murillo said.

Helping students get useful information will benefit them.

“I feel glad we have the current representatives because they are from the most common career paths at the moment and I feel like they do a great job at providing us with useful information to know about,” Senior Victoria Chavez said.

Many are glad we have opportunities to become a doctor for example.

“I want to be a doctor because I have always wanted to be the first choice when someone needs help, I’ve always helped everybody,” junior Nathalie Leon said.

Everybody should hear about the lunch and learns.

“I have heard about the lunch and learns in fact I have been to some; I think they are a great resource for students, and they should take advantage of them,” junior Jade Vazquez-Viaiz said.
