How often do you think about the Roman Empire?
According to ChatGPT, The Roman Empire trend stems from TikTok, where a girl who only dated women went on a date with a male. She asked her Instagram followers what she should ask him, and someone suggested the Roman Empire. She then shared this on Instagram and received a lot of responses indicating commonalities between her partner and others. It then progressed to something that people often think about, not specific to men. In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 31 reported they knew what the Roman Empire was.
“I think the purpose of the trend is to show what is something that can consume one’s mind after a long period of time, and I feel as if everyone’s Roman Empire can differ from a show or a quote or a certain situation,” senior Dhaisy Villegas said.
The purpose of the Roman Empire has different meanings for many.
“Well I know the TikTok meaning of it. The way I interpreted it is like what a woman often times thinks about that might have changed or did change them, like an event, a book, or a moment in their life, you know,” senior Kiara Soto said.
Events that lead to daydreaming or fixating are usually not harmful.
“There isn’t one psychological principle behind daydreaming or fixating. For many, it can be a source of stress relief or escape- thinking about something they like that helps them forget about current troubles. For example, if someone thinks about the Roman Empire or Twilight or winning the lottery to help them fall asleep, that isn’t an issue. If they spend their day imagining winning the lottery and not taking care of their life that can cause harm,” psychology teacher Mr. Fischer said.
Imagining isn’t really important for many.
“I don’t think knowing what your partners roman empire is, is important, in my opinion they’re just random thoughts so if he chooses to share that’s fine but if he doesn’t that’s okay too,” senior Gaby Vilches said.
Random thoughts usually don’t come up unless they are brought up.
“I don’t think about my roman empire a lot, unless it is brought up usually like right now,” sophomore Alex Villegas said.

BELMARES: I feel that we all have a roman empire! Bringing the psychology of a Tiktok trend into our school is so cool to see. Tiktok is a very popular social media app between students and it’s great to see how it’s serving a good purpose in some way or another! 🙂
