The prices of student uniforms are steadily increasing. Where can they be obtained at a more affordable price?
According to The Guardian, approximately one in five students go to school without a uniform because their parents cannot afford one. The cost of supplies and classes can be a daily financial strain for low-income parents. In a recent survey, 84 out of 139 students reported that uniform prices have risen or become too expensive in recent years. However, some students hold a different perspective.
“I honestly believe that the current prices are reasonable. In my opinion, they are not excessively expensive to the point where I can’t afford them,” Senior Jahaida Calderon said.
Some individuals can effortlessly afford uniforms and other school supplies, while others face financial struggles. Fortunately, some students receive support from their families and attend school without financial worries. Unfortunately, there are cases where parents struggle with their income and feel guilty for being unable to afford their child’s uniform and supplies, a sentiment shared by 84 students from our survey.
“Actually, I’m not sure, but I can say that many school-related items have become more expensive,” Senior Santiago Delgado said.
Uniforms and school supplies can create a financial burden for students and their families. The costs of uniforms, textbooks, stationery, and other essential materials can accumulate quickly, posing challenges for many households. However, some argue that the expense of uniforms becomes more problematic when considering that high school typically lasts only four years. Some believe that requiring students to purchase costly uniforms for such a relatively short period may not be the wisest choice.
“I think prices shouldn’t be overly high, considering that we need them for these four years of high school,” a junior said.
Uniforms can indeed be expensive, particularly for families facing financial difficulties. However, if you’re seeking options to obtain a school uniform, especially Morton uniforms, at a lower cost or for free, several options are available. One option is to contact local community organizations, schools, or churches that may provide the needed uniforms. Alternatively, you can seek advice from an adult, such as a teacher, dean, assistant principal or support staff.
“Students should reach out to their counselors and inquire about student support funds. Seniors can also turn in their old uniforms during the last week of their senior year and are allowed to be out of uniform during that time,” assistant principal Carol Best said
