The new Premier League season is here!

Manchester City for the 5th title in a row? Or can we see a new champion this year? The past 4 years of the Premier League season have been about one champion only: Manchester City has been thriving and sweeping the Prem by winning it 4 consecutive times. Each year, we hope to crown a new champion, but Manchester City outplays the teams every single time. In the past, Liverpool has been close to taking that reign away in the 20/21 season, missing by one point. There have been other teams trying to take Manchester City’s reign away, such as Arsenal and Manchester United. Each year, the season gets more competitive with new signings each team makes. Some of the signings help the team get stronger, but there are transfers that could make the team weaker by losing important players. In a random survey of 100 Morton East students/staff, 45 students/staff reported that Manchester City will keep dominating the Premier League, 37 reported that Liverpool might come and take the reign over, 17 reported that Arsenal will be champions, but only 1 reported that Chelsea will come out as champion this year.

“I feel like Manchester City will keep winning, but Arsenal could take 1st place this season. A team that will disappoint this year would be Liverpool; they have a new coach leading the team in his first year in the Premier League, so all pressure is on him,” staff member Mr. Marentes said.

Another staff member agrees that Manchester City will win it.

“How do you feel about this Premier League season? I feel like either Manchester City or Arsenal will win this year’s Premier League season. The biggest upset of the season might be Liverpool; the coach has a lot of pressure on his hands. Liverpool is a big club aiming for big trophies, and as for him, it’s his first big club he’s coaching,” staff member Mr. Romo said.

Another staff member agrees that Arsenal is a contender.

“Well, I feel that Arsenal can make a good run this year and win it. A team that will struggle and disappoint this year is Manchester United; they just can’t find their play styles on the pitch, and they have been struggling the past 3 years, still not looking like they could make a difference this year,” staff member Mr. Arriata said.

A student agrees with the staff that Manchester United will disappoint.

“How do you feel about this Premier League season? Well, I feel like Chelsea will come up first this season. There’s no chance the other teams will beat them this year. The biggest upset of this season would be Manchester United; they just haven’t been good at all and have been having a rough pre-season and start of the season,” Adan Potenciano, a student at Morton East, said.
