The Morton Men’s volleyball team is currently playing and seeking their victory and advancement towards regionals, sectionals and lastly state.
The Morton Mustangs have a current record of 10-4 and consist of 6 seniors, 7 juniors and 2 sophomores who seem to have a positive future this season, although with many great challenges and rivalries. But, how do we plan on overcoming obstacles to make it far this season?
“Height is what makes a player outshine in volleyball, so it’s a great disadvantage for us because we are not very tall and are almost always the shorter team. But the advantage we have is that we are always quicker than taller players; we just have to work extra hard. But I have faith in my guys,” said varsity Captain Nathaniel Feliciano.
What is the expected record?
“Currently, our record is 11 wins and 5 losses, so our win percentage is about 69%. And we play about 32 games, so we expect and hope to finish with a record of around 24 wins and 8 losses, and we can achieve this or even a better record if we step up,” said varsity player Rolando Rodriguez.
What is Morton’s biggest rival when it comes to volleyball?
“For years, our biggest rivalry has been against the Riverside Brookfield Bulldogs because our games have always been close games for many years, and because of the trash talk both sides have said to each other. But we’re past that for this season because we already beat them. But our next biggest rival has to be Hancock, which will also be our senior night on May 2nd. The reason being is because we beat them last year twice, but one of those games was for the regional finals, so they are seeking revenge and also they talk a lot,” said varsity player Ulisses Perez.
