Students interested in NBA predict champs
November 26, 2019
A significant number of Morton East students watch the NBA — and they have many predictions on the NBA Championship.
In a random survey of 100 Morton East survey it turns out that 40% watch the NBA. Many of them don’t play basketball — but they do watch it. Basketball was founded in New York City on June 6, 1946 as the Basketball Association of America (BAA). James Naismith, a teacher at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, is credited with inventing basketball in 1891. The first “hoops” were actually just peach baskets and the first backboards were made of wire. A fun facts about the NBA is that jump balls used to be after every basket. The game became an official Olympic event at the Summer Games in Berlin, Germany in 1936. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored 38,387 points, the most in an NBA career. He holds the record of the most points scored in an NBA career, with Karl Malone coming in second place.
There are currently 30 teams in the NBA. There are 15 teams in each conference (East and West). The Toronto Raptors were the champions 2018-19. Kawhi Leonard was the MVP. The Warriors were the team to beat because they had 5 all star players. 3 of the Warriors starters got injured (Kevin Durant, Klay Thompson, Demarcus Cousins). The Warriors went from a championship team to currently being the last place team in the Western conference. This was a surprising new season because we had many surprising trades and offers. Many players left their old teams, but what team would win the NBA 2019-20 championship.
“My favorite basketball team are the Lakers and they are going to win the championships,” sophomore Eddie Vargas said
The Los Angeles Lakers are in first place right now in the Western conference, as their record being (14-2). Having Anthony Davis and Lebron James helping them towards winning a championship. Lebron leads his team in points by averaging 25.6 per game. He also leads them in assists. Anthony Davis leads his team in rebounds, steals , and blocks.
“The Bucks are going to win,” sophomore Joenny Montero said.
Currently the Bucks are in first place in the eastern conference, with their current record being (13-3). This will be a good season. having Giannis Antetokounmpo being healthy and also their best player on the court. He averages 31.1 points a games and 13.9 rebounds per game.
“The Clippers are going to win and Kawhi Leonard is going to win MVP,” Junior Marco Garcia said.
For the 2018-19 season Kawhi led the Toronto Raptors into winning the championship and Kawhi also won MVP. Many believe that he would also lead his current team into winning the championship. Kawhi leads the team in scoring as his average is 25.7 points per game, he also leads in steals and rebounds.

Frankfother- I think Its good that students have a passion for basketball because it’s an activity that can get kids off the streets and doing something good.

Frankfother. I agree with Joenny, I believe that the Bucks will take the championship as they have the reigning MVP Giannis. Not only that but they overall have decent players around him. Hopefully they live up to expectation, and currently, with their 32-6 record, they are the team to be scared of. Other than that, well written article!
