Most Morton East students do not use school news to see what’s happening at school.
According to Google’s AI Overview, 93% of teen students heavily use platforms like YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram on a daily basis. Even though this is true, students don’t use social media to find out about school news. Seventy-three percent of students use social media to find school-related news, but this is not true for students at Morton East. This is because, according to Google AI Overview, students get overwhelmed with the information or use other digital sources that make school news irrelevant. According to the survey, 61% of people said that they do not follow school news.
“I believe that the school news or activities on social media are not the everyday norm, and this is because of other social media apps like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat. This is why the school news and activities should be recommended to students at school,” said Isaac Alanis, Eddie Castro, and Maritza Vargas.
The problem is that because people use other social media apps and not the school news, it can lead to false information.
“It was news on Instagram in September — there was a rumor that Donald Trump died, and a couple of days later, he was seen playing golf,” said parent Elizabeth Juarez.
Some people believe everything they see on the internet; others feel they can anonymously attack people’s appearance or opinions.
“They bully people to the point where they can kill themselves,” said sophomore Brenda Mariscal.
