13 Morton East students will compete in the Illinois State History Fair on May 1.
On March 1, 41 juniors took their 17 projects to UIC for the Chicago Metro History Fair Contest. Many of these students were part of Bilingual American History Classes, EL Collaboration Junior English, EL Collaboration APUSH and APUSH classes. All these students were invited to a viewing part for the Virtual Awards announcement on March 18; the school purchased pizza and pop for the celebration. Here are the names of the students and their projects that will represent Morton East on May 1 in Springfield at the state competition.
Three groups will advance to state in the Group Exhibit category:
- “Frank Collin: The Jewish Nazi” created by Vanessa Rodriguez, Joshual Gonzalez, and Azucena Garias Bucio.
- “Planned Parenthood” created by Jesus Cabrera and Jackeline Gonzalez.
- “The 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion” created by Nahir Garcia, Isabelle Salgado, and Alec Dominguez.
A group performance has also been selected to advance:
- “The Beginnings of Insulin” performed by Emy Barraza and Melanie Padilla.
And, three students will go on to State in the individual performance category:

- “Finding Dignity in Tragedy: One Nurse’s Response to the Eastland Disaster” performed by Yareli Rodriguez
