Animal for Awareness comes to SHARK club

SHARK’s Club fundraiser that was held 4 weeks ago made it possible for “Animal for Awareness” to come in on Monday after school to show and inform its club members about endangered animals.

Unfortunately, reports suggest that animal abuse is highly common, but cases of animal abuse are not compiled by state or federal agencies, which has made it difficult to estimate an accurate number of cases of animal abuses. According to humansociety.org, international cruelty is strongly correlated with other crimes, including domestic violence. For every 70 million dogs and 74.1 million cats in the U.S being abused, there’s 20 men and women being assaulted per minute. Sadly enough, the state is not doing enough for these innocent animals. Some state laws only allow felony charges if the predator has previous animal cruelty conviction. On November 11th, people from “Animal Awareness” came in for SHARK club in room 115. They presented us with various animals with an explanation as to why they’re on the endangered list and explained to us what they are doing to help them out.

“I was taken by surprise because I didn’t expect to meet the goal that we had set for the fundraiser because it didn’t seem like many people purchased tickets for the movie,” senior Juliana Rodriguez said.

After members from SHARK club spent a week of selling tickets during their lunch period, they felt proud of their accomplishment and were happy they were going to have a chance to meet new animals.

“It was so much fun to see all the animals and learn so many new facts about them,” senior Christian Lopez said.

After having fun learning about animals, many members of SHARK were left concerned about the endangered animals.

“It made me sad to see how many animals are endangered due to abuse, or to hunting. We have to do something to help them out,” senior Kimberly Carrillo said.
