Prom is cancelled
April 22, 2019
In a survey of 120 Morton East students, 80 of them stated that they will not be attending prom, so East has decided to cancel the entire event because they will be losing too much money.
The 201 district previously announced that 2018-2019 prom would be canceled since not many students will be attending. Prom is an event that is held at the end of senior year. According to jovani.com the average amount of money teens usually spends on prom over $950. Due to students not having the requirements met and the majority of students not planning on attending to prom district 201 decided to cancel 2018-2019 prom.
There are many students that will not be attending prom because they don’t have the money to go.
“ I don’t have enough money to waste on a ticket of $99,” student Leonel Palos said.
Some students simply don’t care about prom and think it’s a waste of money and time.
“I would rather spend that money on something else. I rather stay at home and be on my PS4 all day instead,” student Cristian Gutierrez said.
Some people just see prom as another dance. They don’t think it’s any special.
“Prom is just a dance and I don’t see the importance of it. I can go to another dance any other day for a lower price,” Hector Ceballos said.
Unlike other people, some are really devastated with prom being canceled.
“I had already purchased my prom dress and bought my prom ticket. I was excited to spend this day with my friends. Prom is a once in a lifetime experience I don’t know why no one would go,” Natalia Marquez said.

One thing I find believable is that a lot of people do not go to prom because it is a lot of money to spend. One thing I find questionable is that why would they cancel prom, because prom is a big thing to other people and they can’t just cancel it out of nowhere. I wouldn’t have believed this because schools just dont cancel prom out of nowhere.

One thing i found believable was that not many students will attend prom because it is a waste of time and that it is really expensive. One questionable thing i had was that why would they cancel it last minute when people have already boughten the tickets and also their stuff to wear for that day. I wouldn’t believe it because the school hasn’t announced it and also they really can’t cancel it because they have already reserved that day and i’m sure the school wouldn’t want to lose all the money they paid.

I think some students from Morton East High School did really say that they prefer to stay home playing video games. A lot of students don’t have the money to pay for those types of events. I think if someone on social media would share this, i think i would believe it because a lot of students this year are not going to prom.

Prom being cancelled isn’t possible because that ain’t cheap for them to toss money away. I would’ve believe this if the world wasn’t getting too expensive.

One thing that I found believable was that many students don’t have the money for prom. One thing that’s questionable is that how much do they know what a person spend on for prom day? If someone shared this I would have believed it for the fact many students may not attend prom.

The title is eye catching and for seniors in Morton, this would either be something really good or bad. Prom is what most seniors have been looking forward to since the beginning. but for some seniors, they may or may not even care about it.on top of that the tickets for prom cost $90 dollars which a lot of seniors may or may not want to spend that much money. It’s all depending on how much they wanted to go to prom, seniors could be devastated because it’s a once in a lifetime event for seniors.

One thing I found believable are the reasons of students not wanting to go to prom. The students make valid statements, “Prom is just a dance and I don’t see the importance of it. I can go to another dance any other day for a lower price,” Hector Ceballos said. I would have believed this because i feel like someone would actually say this about prom. . One thing i found questionable was Morton cancelling prom. I think the school might hold an alternative way to have the dance if not a lot of students where to attend . For example have the dance in a smaller, less expensive area. I do not think i would have believed it if it was on a social media post.

Prom being cancelled no that isn’t possible stuff like that ain’t cheap to just toss away and lose money. Prom would still be on for some teachers and students that did and can go. It would’ve been believable if this world wasn’t getting so expensive.

i believe this because alot of students don’t have money, they broke.

I find this very fake because the students not going they dont know how to have fun or dont feel conferrable goingbuyt morton is doing this for the ones who work for it

One thing that I find believable is the reason for why they would cancel prom. I feel like this year students are not as excited to go to prom as previous years. One thing that I found questionable is about the amount spend for prom. I feel like in this area, you don’t have to waste more that $950 to look good for prom. I would believe this article because as stated before I feel like not many students are interested on going to prom.

Prom could be waste of money if you wanted to prom to last memories to celebrate senior year. But when prom cancelled they should give refund to everyone who already pay the prom tickets
Uriel Alvarez • Apr 22, 2019 at 10:45 am
One thing I did find believable is how kids just see prom as another dance and how on average kids spend $950 on prom however one thing I didn’t believe was how Morton would just cancel prom if this was shared I wouldn’t believe it

one thing that found it more believable and eye catching is the tittle “Prom is Cancelled”. My question is why would Morton Cancel prom if the students who are qualified and eligible to go to prom bought their dress, tux and ticket already the school just let them waste money and time for nothing. yes i would find it believable that prom would be cancelled due to the students who would not be attending this years prom.

The title automatically caught my attention since students can get in trouble for the most trivial of things. A solid point made by the article would be the fact that many students said prom was a waste of money. I would have done further research in order to see if it was true.

Prom is a huge event for seniors and regardless they should have that special event. The class of 2019 wasn’t really a class that liked to volunteer in senior activities so I would believe the fact that plenty of students decided on not going. I really don’t think that paying more than $950 for prom is believable and that’s a huge exaggeration. I wouldn’t believe it. I wouldn’t believe because if the school has enough money to remodel they have enough money to host prom.

I found believable that students didn’t want to waste $99 dollars on a prom ticket. I found questionable that why wouldnt students wouldnt want to go to prom if its special dance of achool. I would find this believable that prom would be canceled due to not enough students going.

The title automatically caught my attention since I already brought my dress and ticket. One thing I found believable was that many students said prom was just a waste of money and time because I know a lot of seniors this year who have told me that exact same thing. One thing I did find questionable was that the ticket was $99 because as a student who already purchased a ticket I know it was $90 and $100 if you brought it after the 26th. I would have no believed this if someone shared this article on social media because I know for a fact administration would have told us right away.

One thing that made this article believable would be the tittle, it just catches a readers attention especially if you’re a senior. All though one thing i found questionable was at the beginning of the article “80 of them stated that they will not be attending prom, so East has decided to cancel the entire event because they will be losing too much money” doesn’t seem realistic or something Morton would do. If someone shared this article i would probably take the time to read through it but i would still know its fake because i would have to hear it from multiple sources before believing it.
