Morton students still have faith in the government to “call the shots” should we face another pandemic.
The aftermath of the COVID-19 Outbreak. So many people suffered from the virus, but many were stuck at home. According to CIDRAP, over 22.5% of people did not follow the CDC guidelines of quarantine. To add on to this, around 21.5% of people avoided getting tested.
In a random survey of 20 people conducted outside of school, 10 people reported that the pandemic did change their view of the government, while the remaining 8 did not say the pandemic changed their view of the government; 2 were neutral about the question. In a follow-up, 46 people were asked, ‘Would you pay attention to the government if this pandemic replayed itself?’ 28 students voted yes, while 10 said no, and 8 were neutral. Some had some comments to say about the pandemic and what they did during it.
“My work was closed for a bit, so I took up different projects at home. I also bought a house during the pandemic,” 39-year-old Nelly Gallegos said.
This woman bought her dream house during the pandemic. How did others spend their pandemic stuck at home?
“I had gotten addicted to posting videos on TIKTOK (a short video app). I did pick a hobby of cosplay while at it too. It was overall a pretty boring time,” 22-year-old Mark Robertson Jr. said.
You might be thinking, how was it for a teenager in high school during the pandemic? Could virtual learning have been good? Or bad?
“Virtual learning was the worst! I hated every second of it – I was asleep during most of it too; that’s how boring it was!” College freshman Kim Kiefer said.
The mask mandate took most people by surprise; not many followed it, but some did.
“The mask mandate was one of the really good things to happen to us during the pandemic. It helped prevent others and myself from contracting it – to answer your question, yes, I did follow the COVID-19 mask mandate,” Dr. Kahn said.
Last but certainly not least, where would people stuck in quarantine go for groceries?

Aiy, but your grandpa would wear a mask on top of his mask – he looked like a mosquito,” Grandma Estrella said.
