What is the procedure for teachers when they smell marijuana in their classroom?

Teachers follow strict protocols when it comes to situations that involve the use of drugs such as marijuana in his or her classroom.

According to teachers at Morton East, when they encounter a situation that they think involves marijuana; they are supposed to call security as soon as possible. It’s more common that sophomores are caught in the act because they tend to not be able to keep anything to themselves, compared to seniors where they are more “chill” and don’t rub it into people’s faces. Once a month, there’s a meeting where 4 faculty members and the deans meet up and talk about these kinds of things. There are certain things that teachers investigate when deciding if a student is under influence or not, like for example, examining If the student smells, acting goofy, really hungry and drinking a lot of water. Teachers take precautions when calling security because they possibly don’t want to provoke the student exiting their class.
