The majority of people will find themselves giving and receiving gifts from friends this Valentine’s Day, survey says.
The language of love speaks volumes through the exchange of Valentine’s Day gifts for both singles and couples alike. Frequently asked questions about Valentine’s Day include: How many students have friends as Valentines? What are popular gifts for friends on Valentine’s Day? And what is Galentine’s/Palentine’s Day? Addressing the first question, out of ten teens surveyed, eight stated that they have their friends as Valentines, while the remaining two mentioned having their boyfriends or girlfriends as their Valentines. Moving on, one of the most common gifts exchanged during Valentine’s Day is flowers and candy. Lastly, Galentine’s Day is a day when women celebrate their friendships with other women, typically observed between February 1st and Valentine’s Day. Meanwhile, Palentine’s Day is a day dedicated to celebrating all types of friendships, usually observed on February 13th. In a random survey of 100 church-going individuals at Saint Mary, 87 voted on gift-giving and receiving by close friends, while 13 voted on giving and receiving gifts to a significant other.
“I used to receive gifts from my best friend, but she is long gone,” Parishioner Mary Thomas said.
Shifting gears to matters of love,
“When I was your age, I would send secret messages to my crush, who later became my wife,” Parishioner John Thomas said.
Fast-forwarding to more recent times,
“Hey, it’s your mama. When I was in high school, I would receive gifts from my friends! I would say it was a fun time to give people you love something to show your appreciation,” 39-year-old Nelly Gallegos said.

“When I was in high school, I never received gifts for Valentine’s Day for fun or when I was single. I think people hyped up the holiday and it was made for couples really. Once I started dating my boyfriend at the time, now husband, he sometimes did something small just to say ‘I love you!’ I think it really depends on the couple if gifts are given!” English teacher Mrs. O’Malley said.
Wrapping up the diverse stories with my grandmother,
“Fui a la escuela en México, asà que realmente no lo celebrarÃamos, pero sà celebramos el DÃa de San ValentÃn. Yo dirÃa que lo celebrarÃa con mi familia,” grandmother Estrella Rosas said.
