GAS GONE ROGUE…Morton West student Noel M. Martinez spends $100 to fill up his 2019 Nissan Altima. The highest gas price in U.S history, gas prices have risen to $4.17 a gallon in Cicero. Gas prices have jumped up nearly 30 cents a gallon since last week, and gas prices are expected to continue to rise.

So, what is included in the retail price of gasoline?  The price is affected by the cost of crude oil (which has been increasing since the Russian invasion of Ukraine), refining costs (attached to the making of gas), distribution and marketing costs (which have been increasing since the pandemic due to supply chain issues) and taxes.

Currently, a gas-tax holiday is being considered by Illinois Governor Pritzker.  That should bring the cost down by a dollar.
