As cases are rising again, will people follow CDC guidelines to no large gatherings during this year’s holidays?

According to CDC are strongly recommending people to stay home during this year’s holidays to help reduce the spread of Co-vid19. They advise that traveling during this year’s pandemic will only make cases just continue to rise and want people to compromise on staying home and avoid traveling at all cost to help protect themselves and everyone else. Data from John Hopkins University confirms that around 250,000 Americans passed away Wednesday due to Co-vid19 with also over one million new cases this past week that was recorded in the U.S. The AAA estimates over fifty million people traveling this year for the holidays which is way fewer but still a high chance. Searches for Thanksgiving flights went down by sixty percent this year which is leaving airlines depressed since they are losing plenty of money but it’s better than people traveling and spreading Co-vid19 even more. In a random survey of Morton East Students, sixty percent of students reported they would not be traveling this year for the holidays.

“I won’t be traveling this year for the holidays since me and my family planned to do something small since cases are still way too high,” Senior Nicole Villa said.

Staying home is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

“Absolutely not!  My wife’s and my families all live close-by, and we’ve always been home for the holidays.  Besides, with this virus raging across the US, there is no way I’d leave the safety and comfort of my home to potentially “risk it all.”,”  English Teacher Brad Reid said.

Another teacher agrees to follow the rules this holiday season.

“I think people can prevent Covid-19 from spreading by following CDC guidelines and doing their part when it comes to wearing masks, not going out if they are feeling symptoms, and practicing social distancing,” English Teacher Stef Cortes said.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, others feel differently.

“I will be traveling for the holidays I don’t see a problem with it since I will be taking every safety precaution and quarantining once I get back home,” Senior Jesus Roman said.

According to CDC guidelines traveling is fine as long if you quarantine for fourteen days to avoid spreading anything you may spread to another person.

“I think it’s fine for anyone who is not elderly or vulnerable to travel, It seems almost impossible to stop the virus from spreading, even with the measures we are practicing nowadays,” English Teacher Steven Doleman said.

Everyone is at risk Covid-19 so no matter if you are or aren’t traveling for the holidays you should make sure you are taking every precaution necessary to help prevent as much as they can as long as people do their part.
