Morton East culinary students competed in their first ever Cake Wars last Friday.
Six teams of students presented Disney themed cakes in the teachers lounge to be judged by teachers and staff on April 16. Teams included cakes designed and decorated as Coco, Cars, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, and Wall-E. Staff judged in five categories: appearance, taste, creativity, neatness and description.
Winners were in this order: Coco (1st), Ratatouille (2nd), Monsters Inc. (3rd), Wall-E (4th), Finding Nemo (5th) and Cars (6th).
“The kids worked so hard since the day we came back from winter break on those cake designs and recipes; it was so cool to watch them show off their skills,” said culinary teacher Ms. Jessica Herrera.
Grading wasn’t a hassle.
“I have a sweet spot, literally, for these types of student competitions. I mean, we had to eat cake; it was delicious,” said English teacher Ms. Mandy Genge.

FRANKFOTHER: I enjoyed reading this because you see the dedication and the hard work and the talent students put to make different types of cakes such as the Coco, Cars, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc., Ratatouille, and Wall-E etc.

BELMARES: I think this was a lovely way for students to show off their creativity and culinary skills by doing a cake war. All groups had such amazing designs for their cakes and their designs were very innovative, and you can see the visionary they had for each Disney movie cake they did. 😊
