Haunted Houses are on the rise

Half of the students have been to a haunted house; for those that have attended they said they had a horrifying experience by the haunted house.

In a random survey of 130 Morton East students, about half of the students, 60 students, attended a haunted house in their lifetime. A haunted house is a house or other building often perceived as being inhabited by disembodied spirits of the deceased who may have been former residents or were familiar with the property. These haunted houses have been created as a form of entertainment and attraction that family and friends attend to around the spooky season of the September-October months of the year. Some of the haunted houses near Cicero are, 13thFloor in Melrose Park, Hellsgate in Lockport, Midnight Terror in Oak Lawn, Statesville in Crest Hill, and Basement Of The Dead in Aurora. These haunted houses range from 2-star to 5-star ratings. The price ranges are from $20-$40, they always have deals, so it really varies. Midnight Terror Haunted House is the #1 must see Haunted House in Illinois according to their own company.  But, that’s up for debate; at least, one student at Morton thinks so.

“We paid $25 for each person at the Midnight Terror Haunted House. Besides that, my girlfriend and I waited for almost two hours to get towards the front of the line. Honestly the actors in the line were scarier than the actors in the haunted house. It was a waste of money,” said Senior Alexis Vasquez.

Statesville Haunted Prison, though, seems to be well worth the money and wait time in line.

“When I went to Statesville Haunted Prison with my friends, we went really early so we the line wouldn’t be too long. As soon as we got there, there was a ton of people. The haunted house was really good though, I’d definitely go again,” said Senior, Emily Rios.

13 Floors Haunted House also received good reviews from another Morton East Student.

“My brother and I went to 13 Floors Haunted House. I wasn’t expecting it to be that scary since we have gone to a lot of haunted houses, but it was scary, and the actor’s makeup all looked too realistic. I think it was worth the money,” said Senior Marilyn Galindo.

Basement Of The Dead is a 40-55 minute drive from Cicero so it’s not really local but it is worth the money as one Morton East Student says.

“I had one of the best times at Basement Of The Dead. The waiting line was really entertaining with the scare actors coming out and messing around with us in the line. The Haunted House was really a trippy experience as I went in and it was really scary. I would totally recommend this Haunted House for anyone that wants a good experience and is willing to drive out for that,” said Junior Victoria Mota.
