Morton East teachers don’t think summer homework should be required because they believe students should free their minds and be stress-free over the summer months.
A survey was given to 100 Morton East students — 79 students out of 100 said they did not do their homework if they got any. According to experts, they say there may be a real downside for young kids who are pushed to do more homework than the “10 minutes per grade” standard. In the report the no-homework policy has taken the stress out of their afternoons and evening also, it’s been easier for their children to participate in afterschool activities especially during summer. It may be beneficial but at times homework during the summer isn’t a good idea since students won’t be able to do what they want during the summer. That’s why summer is usually for students to get their mind off homework and not think of anything related to school.
“They should have fun during their summers,” athletic office administrator Cynthia O’byle said.
