The Morton boys track team broke the school record for the 4×800 this past Monday with a time of 7:58.02. Congrats to the boys! So, they broke the school record—what’s next?
The Morton boys track team is a dedicated group of athletes who push their limits to achieve personal and team success. From sprinters to distance runners to a strong mid-distance team that qualified 3rd in state and 45th in the nation, they bring together a talent built on love and improvement. The boys track team is all about teamwork, determination, and commitment.
“I’ve been coaching for 28 years, and the year that stood out the most for me was this year. My most valuable runners are Zach Bacci, Valentino Diaz, Orlando Sandoval, Alex Rodriguez, Adrian M., and Miguel Flores. They qualified for state in cross country. As seniors, it’s important because it’s their last year running and having fun. I have high expectations and am excited to see what they’re going to accomplish,” said Coach Anderson.
Some seniors on the track team had this to say:
“Going to state was an eventful experience. My events are basically the same as his (Valentino)—4×800, 600, 400, and 4×400. I’m not running in college, but I’ve run four full years of track and cross country in my high school career,” said senior Zach Bacci.
Another senior reflected on his future plans:
“I run the 4×800, 600, 400, and 800. I’m not sure if I’m going to run in college—stay tuned for the commitment post,” said senior Valentino Diaz.
A junior on the team shared his thoughts about the record-breaking experience:
“It was lowkey light. I felt really good. I lowkey thought we would break the school record, but it was a moment of tension. One of my teammates sold us, but we got back up there. I had that mindset that we got it. I was also the first leg. Improving makes me want to keep going—once you start, you never want to finish. My plan is to go D1,” said junior Orlando Sandoval.
