When is dating someone illegal?

In Illinois, the age consent is 17. Most students in Morton East High School have dated someone younger and older, but only a few have dated people out of school.
According to Legal Match, for people 18 or over, it is illegal for them to commit acts of a sexual nature on persons who are under the age of 18 if they are in a position of authority or trust over the victim.
Unfortunately, as stated by Morton students for the Morton Pony Express News, dating older people by even a few years of difference can be very toxic and manipulative. Regarding the same issues when dating someone younger, maturity levels and expectations are very different. At the end of the day, these type of relationships may work and perhaps it’s society reflecting a stereotype within big age gaps.

According to research you can date someone who is 18 years or older because it isn’t illegal. But however it is illegal to have sexual activity with a person who is under age. If your partner is 18+ he/she can’t have any sexual activity with a minor. If you do have sexual activity with a minor it can be considered statutory rape in some states.

Genge-don’t date someone that is older than you because people will think that you are being raped and doing thing to you that shouldn’t be done. sometimes it is not bad because age is nothing but a number.

According to research, dating someone older or younger isn’t illegal. However, the age of consent for any type of sexual activity is 17 years. Therefore, it’s illegal to participate in any sexual activity with any minor if the person is over the age of 18. Therefore,dating someone older is not bad, as long no sexual activity is taking place.

Genge- According to the information given by the Morton students that are members of Morton Pony Express dating someone can cause issues when dating someone younger, maturity levels and expectations are very different and it’s everything because of the big age gaps. This does not only mean is bad but it’s also illegal for someone over the age of +18 to date someone under age of -18 or even have any sexual interaction with someone under age. Dating or having sexual interaction have to be considered a crime therefor there would be nothing to justify the errors that are being made.

Genge- According to studies, dating someone is not illegal. However, it is illegal to participate in any sexual activity with a minor if you are older the age of 18. The age of consent in Illinois is 17. Therefore, hanging out with a minor would be law abiding but any sexual contact would be considered a crime.
