Students reject the idea of “sexy” costumes at Morton East

More than 50% of Morton East students population believes sexualized or provocative costumes should not be allowed at Morton East.  

Less than 45% of Morton East student population believed that “sexy” or provocative costumes should not be worn at school. 

In a random survey of 100 Morton East students, 43 said that students at Morton East should be allowed to wear provocative costumes. They believed they should be able to express themselves in whatever way they felt comfortable. 57 of the 100 random students surveyed said that students at Morton East should not be able to weaprovocative costumes because they believed it was not appropriate for school and could at times, be distracting. 

 “Not appropriate for school,” said senior Ixtchel Garcia.

 Other students agree. Wearing unappropriated costumes can be a violation of school policies. 

 “It’s not something that should be worn at school,” said sophomore Valeria A.  

 Wearing provocative or “sexy” costumes at school can attract the attention of some students when they should be focused on schoolwork. 

 “It can be distracting,” said Ms. Alcantara, the librarian.

Students may find provocative costumes distracting because they stand out. The way it’s made makes it distracting 

 “Find other ways to present yourself,” said Ms. Alcantara, the librarian. 

Students may think that wearing a provocative costume may be a way to express yourself, but other different costumes could prove that 

 “There are cute costumes to wear during school,” said Junior Maraya B.  

 Yes, they might be hot/” sexy” costumes, but you could wear something else not something inappropriate to school.
