Many students at Morton East wear glasses, but just how many? A survey conducted by students of Morton East revealed that out of 104 students surveyed, 68 answered no to wearing glasses and 36 answered yes. Some people also prefer to wear contacts rather than opting to use their regular glasses. Whether or not somebody chooses to wear glasses is often based on preference as glasses have numerous styles it can be hard to decide or just chose contacts.

“some people think that wearing glasses is ugly and although they need glasses they would rather be blind than wear glasses—even if it would make their life easier,” sophomore Cynthia J. Jimenez said.

Although many students should wear glasses since it helps better their sight, they often don’t likely because they just don’t like the appearance. It’s recommended to wear your glasses; otherwise, your eyes must work harder. This can in turn cause headaches and fatigue.

“I feel like I rely on my glasses— I’m too lazy for contacts and I think I’m uglier without glasses; I really can’t live without them,” senior Mario G. Osorio said.

Even though some students don’t like to use their glasses, there are some who feel they are a necessity. To some people, their glasses can even be considered part of their identity and who they are. Some people are likely able to relate to a time when somebody they know is always wearing their glasses and for just a moment removes them. They can often look like two completely different people.

“if I had glasses I’d (play and mess) with them a lot (but) I feel like it would be annoying if I forget them at home and they’d be (high maintenance)” Sophomore Jennifer Vargas said

It’s interesting to hear an opinion from somebody who doesn’t wear glasses because it shows what their impressions of them are. After hearing the various answers from students, it was great to see the different opinions across the board. And finding out that a great number of students use glasses in their everyday lives.
