Students take the SAT

250 students from all over the Chicago area, including Morton East, were scheduled to take the SAT at Morton East on November 3rd.

The SAT is a standardized test that many schools in the nation take for colleges and universities to look at for any applicants that want to apply to their school. The test was introduced in 1926 and it is owned and run by the College Board, a non-profit organization in the U.S. The SAT scores help colleges interpret students’ overall academic performance here in the United States. Here at the campus of Morton East, the average SAT score that students achieve is between 860-1010. Though, there’s a room in Morton East where there are coordinators that help students with registering for standardized tests, applying for college, and register for FAFSA. Here, they can also give us information on where to go to prepare for the upcoming standardized tests.

Before taking the SAT, there are some preparations the coordinators suggest students do.

“I suggest that students use Khan Academy to help them prepare for any up and coming standardized tests, Khan Academy provides similar examples of the actual test,” said career center coordinator Ms. Marisol Avila.

Students have taken responsibility upon themselves to prepare for the test as well.

“Everyday after school I studied and I reviewed the booklet they gave us to study and use as help. It was a very helpful source that the school provided for us,” said Morton senior Alex Velasco.

Others had a different approach to preparing for the test.

“The SAT is a challenging test, and in order to do good make sure to study with a group if you can,” said Morton senior Alexia Hernandez.
