Morton students work minimum wage

How many students work at Morton East?

There are many students that work and get paid at least minimum wage. In the United States the federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. In the states of Illinois, the minimum wage is $8.25 per hour. According to the United States Department of Labor, bureau of labor statistics, In the United States 1 out of 4 students the age of 16 are working. In a random survey of 19 students from Mr.Blomquist’s AP micro-economics class, 8 said that they work.

Diego believes that the minimum wage job is not hard to find.

“No, not hard, but it is hard to get another job somewhere else if you don’t have experience,” senior Diego Rodriguez said.

Daniel doesn’t mind a minimum wage.

“$8.25/ an hour! I get paid really low to be honest, but it’s enough,” sophomore Daniel Andrade said.

But a minimum wage job is hard.

“$9.00 an hour: it’s hard working all week for $9.00, but it is better than nothing,” junior Pablo Gutierrez said.
