Majority of students use cash to pay instead of debit or credit cards.

In a survey of 100 Morton East students 58% said they did not have a credit card or debit card, and 42% said that they do have a credit card or debit card. When it comes to using credit card you eventually have to pay it as a bill later on because the money in the credit card is just borrowed from the bank. In a debit card the money is transacted from your bank account. Finally, when you pay with cash you pay the entire amount at that moment.

“I rather use cash because you have to pay for the credit card,” junior Julie Colon said.

In addition, Julie is not the only one that prefers credit card or debit card over money.

“I don’t have credit card or debit card, but if I did I would prefer debit card because if I lost my cash money, I would not be able to recoup it (get it back).  If I lose my debit card since it’s my money from my account,  I would call the bank and notify them about the loss of my card,” sophomore Maria Plascencia said.

More over there are people that choose credit or debit card, but there are also people that prefer cash.

“I prefer cash because you don’t have to worry about paying it back or the bank taking away the money from your account,” senior Jose Guzman said.

Older adults do prefer cash as well.

“My preference is cash because I pay what I buy right at the moment I don’t have to be waiting for the bill to come back home,” parent Maria Olvera said.

Still others rely on both cash and credit/debit and love it.

” I don’t have a preference. Both come in handy; I usually use the cash for non-expensive things and credit or debit for expensive things,” parent Alejandro Duran said.

Great article! For me it’s easier to carry my debit card with me at all times but it’s also best to carry some cash in hand just in case.

I agree with points in your article, like if I were to lose my debt card I can call the bank and tell them to cancel it. To me I think its better to just use my debt card as I would want just to spend my cash.

Its surprising how many people prefer to carry cash on them. I personally don’t like to have cash on me because I know I will end up spending it all at once. I prefer having my debit card with me at all times instead cause I regardless have it with me in my phone case right but I don’t spend too much because a girl here isn’t trying to be broke.
