Cyber Monday rules over Black Friday at Morton

What happened to Black Friday this year?  For most at East, it was Cyber Monday for shopping.

According to CNET.com, Black Friday 2020 was not like the past years. Stores like Home Depot, Walmart, and Best Buy held early Black Friday deals.  Not a lot of stores were open on Thanksgiving night. Additionally, the safest thing for everyone to do right now during the pandemic was to shop during Cyber Monday.  Many stores have realized that people are not willing to risk their exposure to getting coronavirus just to get Black Friday deals. (Illinois.Gov shows that there are 720,114 Cases of COVID in Illinois.) 62% of students who voted on a poll said they did their shopping during cyber Monday. Students who voted on a poll showed that only 13 out of 34 people were willing to go Black Friday shopping.

“I believe Cyber Monday (is the best choice) because it seems to be the safest thing to do now,” senior Ivett Meraz said.

Another Cicero resident was less concerned about safety, more concerned with the expense.

“I think Black Friday is a waste of money, time and it’s just stupid, “ Ms. Roman said.

Still, some people believe in the Black Friday tradition.  To them, there is nothing like in-store.

“I just think it’s not the same to shop online than to shop in person where you can see the stuff you’re buying,“ senior Lesly Santoyo Leon said.
